About root canal treatment
Inside every tooth is soft tissue called the pulp. When deep decay, a crack or an injury lets bacteria reach the pulp, it can become inflamed or infected and cause pain or swelling. Root canal treatment removes the damaged pulp, cleans and shapes the canals inside the root, and seals them to stop infection coming back.
Treatment is done under local anaesthetic and may need more than one visit. Back teeth often need a crown afterwards to protect them.
