About tooth extraction
A tooth extraction is the removal of a tooth from its socket. Your dentist will always look at ways to save a tooth first, but extraction may be needed for a tooth that is badly decayed, broken, loose because of gum disease, or blocking other teeth.
Wisdom teeth that are stuck (impacted) or keep getting infected may need a surgical extraction, which is a minor oral surgery procedure. Your dentist will assess this with an X-ray.
