About dental implants

A dental implant is a small titanium post placed in the jawbone where a tooth is missing. Once it has joined with the bone, a crown is fitted on top so it looks and works like a natural tooth. Unlike a bridge, an implant does not need the teeth next to the gap to be filed down.

Implants can replace one tooth, several teeth, or help hold a denture firmly in place. To replace a whole arch of teeth, see All-on-4 and All-on-6.

Who it can help

  • Adults missing one or more teeth
  • People who find dentures loose or uncomfortable
  • Patients with healthy gums and enough jawbone (your dentist will check)
  • People who want a fixed option instead of a removable one

What to expect

  1. Consultation and X-rays

Your dentist checks your gums, bone and general health to see if an implant is suitable.

  2. Treatment plan and cost

You get a written plan and the full cost before anything starts.

  3. Placing the implant

The implant is placed under local anaesthetic, so the area is numb during the procedure.

  4. Healing

The bone usually takes a few months to join with the implant. A temporary tooth may be fitted in the meantime.

  5. Fitting the crown

A custom crown is made to match your other teeth and fixed onto the implant.

Frequently asked questions

How much does a dental implant cost in Malaysia?

At Qualiteeth, a dental implant starts from RM5,000 per tooth, including the implant, abutment and crown. Your dentist will confirm the full cost after your consultation and X-rays.

Does getting an implant hurt?

The area is numbed with local anaesthetic during the procedure. Some swelling or discomfort afterwards is common for a few days, and your dentist will advise you on pain relief.

How long does the whole process take?

It usually takes a few months from placing the implant to fitting the final crown, because the bone needs time to heal around the implant.

How long do dental implants last?

With good cleaning and regular check-ups, implants can last many years. The crown on top may need replacing over time.

Can anyone get a dental implant?

Most healthy adults can, but some conditions, smoking or not enough jawbone can affect suitability. Your dentist will check this at the consultation.
